On October 30 (local time), Xin Baoan, Chairman of Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and President of the China Electricity Council (CEC), met separately in Tokyo with Tsukamoto Osamu, President of the Japan Carbon Frontier Organization (JCOAL), and Yoshihito Morishita, Chairman & CEO of the Japan Electric Power Information Center (JEPIC). The discussions focused on advancing green energy and power cooperation between China and Japan.

Xin Baoan shared his participation in the 25th Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) and introduced China’s progress in green and low-carbon energy transition. He noted that China actively serves as a promoter, contributor, and leader of the global energy transition. China has built the world’s largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system, along with the most complete new energy industrial chain. Its installed clean energy capacity has reached 2200 GW, accounting for 59.5% of the total capacity. In recent years, China has added around 400 GW of new energy capacity annually, contributing more than 60% of global growth and becoming a key driver of the global energy transition. China has also built the world’s largest new energy cloud platform, supporting the efficient operation of over six million new energy stations.
Xin Baoan emphasized that GEIDCO is an international cooperation platform and high-end think tank dedicated to promoting green and low-carbon development. In recent years, GEIDCO has hosted a series of influential international conferences and capacity-building programs, released nearly 100 research outcomes covering energy, climate, and environment, and facilitated projects such as China–South Korea grid interconnection, ASEAN power grid interconnection, and photovoltaic-plus-storage applications in African countries. GEIDCO has also led the development of international standards for Global Energy Interconnection, with the first batch of 11 standards issued, covering new power system planning, cross-border grid interconnection, and advanced transmission and transformation technologies.

Tsukamoto Osamu stated that Japan aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and is prioritizing greener energy supply and electrification of end-use sectors, with green power playing a central role. He expressed hope to deepen cooperation in standardization, energy conservation, efficient energy utilization, and the application of CCUS technologies in coal-fired power, and to further build platforms for enterprise exchange and technical collaboration.
Yoshihito Morishita noted that power companies in China and Japan have a long history of cooperation, and that China’s development experience and technological innovation provide valuable reference. He said both sides will advance practical cooperation in research and technical exchange, particularly in renewable energy grid integration, energy storage technologies, hydrogen utilization, CCUS, and cross-border power grid interconnection, to jointly promote green transformation in the power industries of both countries.
Masamichi Hashiguchi, Managing Director of JCOAL; Toshiyuki Oda, Director of the International Business Department, and other representatives attended the meeting. Hideo Kojima, Executive Director of JEPIC; Akihiko Nagahama, Director of the Planning Department, and other representatives also participated.
