Symposium Held Between GEIDCO and Ambassadors from Group of Latin America and the Caribbean

On October 21, the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) held a symposium with ambassadors from the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) at its headquarters. The event aimed to discuss energy development in Latin America and the Caribbean and to deepen China–Latin America energy cooperation.

Mr. Xin Baoan, Chairman of GEIDCO and President of the China Electricity Council(CEC), noted that Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) represents a modern energy system that is clean, electricity-centered, interconnected, and intelligent. In recent years, Latin American countries have actively advanced clean energy development, green industries, and high-end manufacturing, promoting a comprehensive green transformation across the energy, economy, and social sectors.

He emphasized that building a Latin American Energy Interconnection, accelerating the regional development of hydropower, wind, and solar resources, strengthening grid infrastructure and interconnectivity, and leveraging mineral advantages such as bauxite, copper, and lithium to foster integrated industrial chains linking power, mining, metallurgy, manufacturing, and trade, would inject strong momentum into infrastructure development and industrial upgrading in the region. These efforts, he said, will promote coordinated and sustainable economic, social, and environmental development. GEIDCO is ready to play an active role in conducting joint research, project cooperation, and capacity building with Latin American countries, helping them develop energy interconnections and accelerate green and low-carbon energy transformation.

H. E. Martin Charles, Ambassador of Dominica to China, remarked that developing countries face complex challenges in advancing energy transition, which requires not only sound economic governance but also strengthened international cooperation.

He said that as the first international energy organization initiated by China, GEIDCO has continued to play an important role in promoting energy transition and green development both in China and globally. In recent years, China–Latin America cooperation has made remarkable progress, and there is great potential for further collaboration between GEIDCO and Latin American and Caribbean countries in the energy sector. He expressed hope that GEIDCO would leverage its expertise to provide energy solutions that support Dominica and other countries in the region in addressing climate change and accelerating their energy transitions.

The symposium was chaired by Dr. Cheng Zhiqiang, Executive Secretary for Cooperation of GEIDCO. During the meeting, GEIDCO introduced its cooperation initiatives and presented research achievements, including the report “Green Energy Development for Global South Modernization.”

Before the symposium, the ambassadors visited the Global Energy Interconnection Exhibition Hall.
