GEIDCO Holds Meeting with Regional and National Committees

On September 10, the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) held a meeting with its regional and national committees. The meeting reviewed the progress of Global Energy Interconnection (GEI), discussed how to better leverage the strengths of the committees, accelerate the development of GEI, and advance global green and low-carbon transition. Mr. Xin Baoan, Chairman of GEIDCO, attended the meeting and delivered a closing speech.

Mr. Xin noted that since the launch of the GEI initiative, and with the concerted efforts of all parties, GEI has evolved from a proposal into concrete action, and from a vision into reality. GEIDCO has grown into a leading international think tank in the energy sector, built a platform for win-win cooperation, and gained broad global influence. Its work aligns with global development trends and the shared needs of all parties, pointing the way forward for the world’s energy transition. He stressed that the recently concluded 2025 GEI Conference was a milestone event. With its high-level participation, large scale, and substantial outcomes, the conference provided a comprehensive review of achievements over the past decade, outlined future development pathways, and will drive GEI to a new stage of growth.

Mr. Xin emphasized that regional and national committees are a vital part of GEIDCO. Over the years, these committees have consistently supported the GEI vision, actively engaged in GEIDCO’s work, and made important contributions to advancing the global energy transition and promoting green, low-carbon, and sustainable development. He affirmed that GEIDCO attaches great importance to the work of the committees, and will continue to support them in expanding their role and achieving greater progress.

The meeting was attended by Executive Vice Chairman of GEIDCO, Mr. Liu Zehong;  Vice Chairpersons of GEIDCO, Mr. Oleg Budargin and Ms. Elham Mahmoud Ibrahim; Secretary-General Mr. Wu Xuan; Executive Secretary for Cooperation Mr. Cheng Zhiqiang; Deputy Secretaries-General Mr. Li Baosen and Mr. Zhou Yuanbing; as well as heads of relevant departments.

More than 10 chairs of GEIDCO’s regional and national committees, along with experts from the the Advisory (Consultant) Board and Technical (Academic) Committee, attended the meeting. They exchanged views on advancing GEI and strengthening the work of the committees. The participants noted that the 2025 GEI Conference was a remarkable success and that the achievements of GEI over the past decade are impressive. They expressed their commitment to further strengthening the role of the committees, and to deepening cooperation in capacity building, planning and research, and project promotion, so as to advance GEI implementation in their regions.

Regional and national committees are an integral part of GEIDCO’s global work system. To date, GEIDCO has established six regional committees and 20 national committees. They aim to provide platforms for GEI development in their respective regions and countries, bring together partners and members, and foster exchanges and cooperation, thus better serving and supporting sustainable development at regional and national levels.
